The 7 Minute Parathyroidectomy 05 July 17

When I first began parathyroid surgery hours were spent searching for the elusive tumor. Large incisions and surgical failures were ever so common. These challenges have been replaced by incredible minimally invasive surgery and leading edge technology. Great advances such as Tc 99m sestamibi, 4D CT, High definition US and intraoperative PTH, combined with minimal incisions have changed the disease.

This photograph is of a markedly enlarged parathyroid tumor that I removed 7 minutes after I made the incision.
